Headteacher's Update

Our School Councillors organised a very successful day of 'doing something funny for the money' to raise funds for Comic Relief and as a Federation we raised a whopping £488.06!

We were impressed with the efforts of all the children who entered the cake competition - the judging was a real challenge (as you can see from the photos here) for the school Councillors! Well done to those children who won or came as a runner up and a huge thank you to all who entered as this raised a lot of extra money from cake sales at the end of the school day.

Voice In A Million

On Wednesday 19th March, Woolton Hill Junior School Choir Club had the incredible opportunity to perform at the OVO Arena in Wembley as part of Voice in a Million, an event billed as ‘the world’s most spectacular school concert’. This unforgettable experience brought together thousands of children from across the country to sing in unison, promoting the powerful message that ‘Every child matters; and every child deserves a loving family.’

Voice in a Million is more than just a concert—it serves as a platform to highlight the voices of children in the UK care system, advocating for adoption and fostering. For months leading up to the event, our children have worked hard to prepare, learning the songs, designing banners to proudly represent Woolton Hill Junior School, and have embraced the core message of inclusion and the importance of a loving family in all its forms.

The day itself was truly magical. The energy in the arena was electric as thousands of young voices joined together in harmony, creating an atmosphere that was both moving and uplifting. For many of our children, this was their first experience performing on such a grand stage, and they embraced it with confidence and enthusiasm.

Parents and Teachers who accompanied the choir were overwhelmed with pride, seeing the children not only perform beautifully but also represent our school with kindness, respect, and joy. Their dedication and hard work shone through, making them wonderful ambassadors for Woolton Hill Junior School.

For the children, this was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Many described it as ‘the best day of their lives,’ expressing how much they loved singing alongside so many others who share their passion for music. The power of coming together through song left a lasting impact, and we are certain that this event will remain a cherished memory for all who took part.

A huge well done to everyone involved—your voices, your spirit, and your commitment to spreading such an important message made this an experience to remember!

Meet the Team

The Young Journalists recently caught up with Mrs Dickson, Class Teacher in Hazel and English Manager across the Federation. Here's what they found out.

"Her favourite subject is art she really enjoys how therapeutic it is. Her best piece of art work was when she was doing her A-levels and she painted huge conkers. Mrs Dickson loves being a teacher; it was what she has always wanted to be. Its not the easiest jobs sometimes, but she wouldn’t have it any other way.

One of her favourite ways to wind down after a long, hard day of teaching is doing Lego . She says she finds it very calming and has made various different things such as the massive Hogwarts castle, an orchid, a Japanese garden and the bonsai tree."

By the Young Journalists.

Grounds Update

This week some of the Eco Team helped us to plant a new wildflower 'mini meadow'. This was an idea the Eco Team and School Council had to increase biodiversity in the school grounds and attract more species especially pollinators like bees and butterflies. This also forms part of our schools Sustainability and Climate Change Plan (https://www.schoolsofwooltonhill.com/subjects/outdoor-learning). It has been good to have the support of AWE volunteers again to help us with the groundworks ahead of the children sowing the seeds and creating some useful signage for the 'mini meadow' too!

The wildflower seed was provided by The Hampshire Forest Partnership who also helped us with the tree planting earlier in the year.

We look forward to seeing the sight bloom over the summer and hope to attract lots of insect species for us to study during our Outdoor Learning lessons.

Come along to our Coffee afternoon at St Thomas' where our team of Family Support Workers will be available to offer support and advice for any concerns that you wish to bring along. This is available to parents from both schools. Let us know you're planning to pop along via this link:
