Equality and Rights Advocates

Our school EARA group aim to ensure that everyone will feel an equal part of our community, where people are treated fairly and respectfully. We value equity as well as equality and the importance of respecting the rights of all.

To help meet this aim, we have worked with our school leaders to:

Invest in new books that promote diversity and the learning and normalisation of the protected characteristics.

EARA Group

Basingstoke and Deane Inclusion and Diversity Partnership

We are part of the Basingstoke and Deane Inclusion and Diversity Partnership. This means we show a strong commitment to developing a school community where we have a focus on equality and diversity. This means we aim to be a place where people genuinely feel that they belong and, as a result, they will develop a strong and positive sense of self and an appreciation of their own and others' uniqueness and identity.

We know that this will impact on wider society as our children will grow into tomorrow’s adults. Our partnership helps us to provide opportunities within the curriculum for our children to think critically, skilling our children up to challenge and confront prejudice, discrimination, and racism.

We believe our world is a wonderful place, and that our diversity is to be celebrated. It enriches us and makes us stronger and more interesting. Our vision is that:

At the Schools of Woolton Hill we believe that we must show respect towards each other as everyone’s contribution is important and everyone’s feelings should be considered.

Children and staff learn to appreciate and celebrate difference. We develop a respect for everyone and everything on our planet so together we can all share and enjoy our precious world.

Treat others as you would want them to treat you.

The Schools of Woolton Hill Global Links 2025.jpeg

At the Schools of Woolton Hill we want our 8.3% of children who are not White-British to feel empowered to see that they have every opportunity and every right to succeed and achieve. We want them to thrive in our school community, to see themselves as equal and not disadvantaged in any way. We want them to feel proud of their culture, their skin colour, their hair style and their way of life. Celebrating their identity and sharing it with us in meaningful ways. For the 91.7% of our children who are classed as White-British, and who live in our mainly White-British community, they need to be supported to understand that the world is a very diverse place. We must help them to realise the beauty in our difference, as well as the equality that exist.

We want all of our children to learn about amazing scientists, artists and important figures in history who represent diversity. We also want our curriculum itself to be diverse and inclusive, and for our children to study amazing people who may share their skin colour, have a similar accent, or come from their country of family origin. We want our children to be skilled and confident so they have a strong sense of courageous advocacy in order that they can stand up for injustice, whether in the classroom, on the playground or more widely.

The aims of the EARA group are to:
Promote the equality act
Enhance pupil voice
Challenge discrimination and prejudice
Advocate for the rights of the child (UNCRC)
Encourage positive attitudes towards difference
