Outdoor Learning

Large, dedicated outdoor learning space
We are incredibly fortunate to have a large outdoor space that includes our very own woodland, providing a unique and inspiring environment for learning and play. This fantastic area is shared by pupils from both the Infant and Junior schools, offering endless opportunities for exploration and discovery.

Dedicated room for outdoor learning activities in all weathers
The outdoor site is thoughtfully designed and includes a range of features to enhance the outdoor learning experience. We have a dedicated room for outdoor learning activities, perfect for use during less favorable weather, and it also serves as storage for our extensive resources. The site boasts purpose-built areas for den building, complete with poles and teepee structures, as well as child-friendly pathways and an outdoor sink. Pupils can enjoy a mud kitchen, water play areas, and several large bug hotels, which support imaginative play and environmental learning.
Woodland fire circle
There are multiple log circles designed for outdoor activities and group discussions, as well as a woodland fire circle with a fire pit for learning key survival and safety skills. Covered outdoor spaces provide additional opportunities for play and learning, ensuring that the outdoors can be enjoyed in all seasons.
Outdoor learning curriculum from Early Years to Year 6
Our bespoke outdoor learning curriculum is progressive and designed to develop outdoor skills from EYFS through to Year 6. It includes activities such as knot tying, den building, fire lighting, and plant and animal identification. The curriculum builds on these skills year by year, fostering confidence, teamwork, and a deeper connection with nature (see our full curriculum skills progression in the links).
