Headteacher's Update

Over the past few weeks, Miss Knapp and I have had the pleasure of touring prospective new parents around our school. It has been a joy to showcase the high-quality teaching and the exciting learning taking place in every classroom. What stood out most was how confidently and thoughtfully our children articulated their understanding—an inspiring reflection of their engagement and the strength of our curriculum.
I felt a very proud headteacher throughout these visits. A special thank you goes to our wonderful school ambassadors who supported the tours and offered a genuine pupil perspective. Their enthusiasm and honesty made a lasting impression.
I would like to wish all of our families a wonderful half term holiday. Don't forget that Monday 3rd November is an INSET day, so we will welcome all pupils back to school on Tuesday 4th November at 8.45am.
We are planning lots of exciting events for the Christmas season and will be communicating these dates after half term. The School Council are busy planning fundraising activities for Children in Need on Friday 14th November and they will be updating you on this too.
Food Bank
The School Council wanted to say a huge thank you to all our families for supporting the Food Bank so well at our Harvest Festival. The donations came in at 134.8kgs.
This is roughly the weight of a fully grown male orangutan! More importantly, it represents the equivalent of 283 meals that the Schools of Woolton Hill have provided for local people who are currently experiencing extreme hardship. The West Berkshire Food Bank said "we so appreciate your ongoing support and the work you do to raise the profile of our charity and food poverty more widely".
Reminder
School starts at 8.45am. We have noticed an increasing volume of pupils arriving at school after this time, sometimes as late as 9am. This not only delays their start to the day but also disrupts the rest of the class. Please can parents ensure that pupils are ready to enter the school building at 8.45am each day.
The Friends of the Woolton Hill Schools
Thank you for all of the Bags2School donations. In return we have received £147.60. Movie night was fully booked and a great success, adding about £400 towards our fund raising.
Don’t forget to take part in the Scarecrow trail which starts tomorrow Saturday 25th October running through to Monday 3rd November. Maps are £3 (cash only) from the Woolton Hill Shop.

Please note the corrected date below for the Quiz night.

Safeguarding Matters
Social Media Bullying - Childline
Bullying doesn’t stop at the school gates. Social media means children can face harassment anytime, often without adults knowing. Teachers are in a key position to notice, respond and signpost support.
Childline has useful advice for children about online bullying, giving them practical steps on reporting abuse, blocking bullies, and coping strategies.
Sharing this resource are reflecting on these issues in assemblies, lessons and at home helps pupils feel supported, know where to turn, and understand that bullying is never their fault. You can find their advice here: https://www.childline.org.uk/info-advice/bullying-abuse-safety/types-bullying/bullying-social-media
