Headteacher's Update
It's been a very busy week at St Thomas'; especially with our 'visitors' on Tuesday and Wednesday. Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond to the Parent Survey and for all your 'good luck' messages.
The whole Federation team responded brilliantly across the two days, and our children were amazing, as usual. Miss Knapp and myself feel very proud to be leading such a committed and dedicated school community. We are pleased to have completed the inspection at the Infant School and anticipate a similar inspection at the Juniors.
The outcome of the inspection is confidential until the report is published. I will provide this to parents, before it is put on the OFSTED website. I anticipate the report will be available in around 30 working days.
Today we say goodbye to Jilly, Marketa and Lesley, the St Thomas' After School Club Team and thank them for their high quality after school club provision they have provided for the children over many years. We wish them all the very best in their new ventures.
School Library & Book Sale
We are delighted to now have our wonderful Library up and running which will open weekly after school on a Monday for parents and children to visit together. Our fantastic Year 2 Librarians have now been selected for the spring term and following their training they're doing a fantastic job of supporting children to use the Library as well as keeping the Library looking tidy and inviting. Well done to Lacey, Ollie, Dylan M, Elodie, Bella and Zalie.
Our book sale last week was also a great success raising over £90 for the schools PTA - funds which will come back into school to support our children with enrichment events. Thank you for visiting the sale and your generous donations. We hope children are enjoying reading their 'new' books at home! Thank you to our Y2 Librarians and dedicated parents helpers for your support too.
Can you help?
We are always looking for ways to improve the lunchtime experience for our children, the School Council have chosen new equipment for the playground which children are enjoying, and we are now also welcoming Junior School Peer Buddies back to the Infant School - children are really enjoying the games they organise. If any parents are able to volunteer on a regular basis to support lunchtimes between 12:15 - 1:15pm we would love to know. This would enable us to offer an inside lunch club for children to access Lego and board games/colouring. Please contact Debbie if you can help out one day or more a week.
An Evening of Star Gazing
Earlier this year we changed our Federation Houses to the names of constellations that can be seen in the night sky above Woolton Hill. On 1st Feb we invite children and parents to join us on the playground at Woolton Hill Junior School to gaze up at the night sky and see what they can spot.
The event will be supported by Newbury Astronomical Society. They will be bringing along some telescopes, but families are invited to bring their own equipment, if they have it, for their own use. Children must be supervised by an adult for the duration of the event.
Please note this event is weather dependent. If there is too much cloud for viewing on the day, we will inform all of our families.
