Governor Vacancies

We have opportunities for both parents and members of the wider community to join our Governing Body.

The Schools of Woolton Hill have always aimed for a partnership with our community; which undoubtedly brings great benefits to the children. One of the most significant ways you can help is to volunteer to be a governor.

The governing body's main tasks are:

  • to ensure that the school has a clear vision, ethos and strategic direction;

  • to hold the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils;

  • to oversee the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

One team

Governors are welcomed as valued members of the team and play a vital role in ensuring the governing body is aware of the views of parents and the local community. We feel sure that there are parents prepared to take on this important role and give their time and commitment to helping us to continue to improve the school's performance.

Though we have vacancies for Parent Governors, you don't need to be a parent to be a Governor. We also have positions for cop-opted Governors (brought onto the Governing Body for specific skills or experience) and Foundation Governors (responsible to preserve the religious character of the school).

What is required in practical terms

The role is flexible and you will have the opportunity to take on more responsibility should you wish to do so. One of the practical ways that Governors are involved in improving the school is through monitoring visits. These are carefully planned and aligned to the schools objectives and are a way for Governors to spend time in school and see what is really happening

Other key roles include:

  • Resourcing: Monitoring the financials and use of resources;

  • Teaching & Learning: Monitoring the provision of teaching;

  • Policies & Compliance: Ensuring the school has appropriate policies in places, and is following these; and

  • Strategy & Communications: ensuring the school delivers on its strategic priorities and is communicating effectively with its stakeholders

Training

Training and support will be available to help you develop into the role. This will include in-house mentoring and support as well as access to external governor training.
