Yesterday we welcomed Rev Canon Dodi Marsden back into school for a very special collective worship.

Recently, Dodie had educated and inspired us all about our link school Bulera in Uganda. The children were motivated to raise some funds for the school after they learnt about the food poverty and lack of educational equipment in the school. Keen to be courageous advocates, our Year 3/4 educated the whole school community about the challenges The Bulera School faces and encouraged the school community to pull together to help. The children's enterprise stalls (selling friendship bracelets, sweets, cakes and gods eyes) raised a whopping £240 in total - thank you for your support.

The children presented a cheque to Dodie yesterday along with a collection of artwork, traditional stories and Hampshire wildlife fact files for Dodie to share with the children in The Bulera School when she visits in September. We hope to establish a work swap and receive some stories back from the children there. Dodie will visit us at school again in November and we know she'll bring back stories and tales from her travels there and the children can do another round of Ugandan clapping; get them to show you!

What an inspiring project! The link with Bulera School in Uganda is a brilliant way of teaching pupils about courage, compassion, and community. The creative enterprise stalls sound fantastic. For more on supporting cross-cultural learning in schools, we’ve shared resources here.
