Headteacher's Update
Last Friday’s Colour Run was a truly memorable event and a wonderful celebration of our school community. Pupils, families and staff thoroughly enjoyed an afternoon filled with colour, energy and fun, and the feedback from the evening was overwhelmingly positive.
A huge thank you goes to the PTA and volunteers whose hard work and organisation made the event run so smoothly. As well as being a fantastic shared experience, the Colour Run has already made a significant contribution of over £1000 towards our fundraising goals, with the total raised for the pond now standing at £6,707 so far.
School Council work as Courageous Advocates
Our Junior School Councillors have been hard at work agreeing with their classes on a global injustice that the children feel strongly about and want to raise awareness of. They have chosen the plight of endangered animals, affected by climate change and are busy planning a day of awareness and fundraising!
What: a non-uniform day and donation (£1 +) to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Charity (dress as an animal or animal theme clothing, can be as simple as t-shirt with an animal on).
When: Friday 22nd May (final day of this half-term)
Why: to raise awareness of animals at risk around the world; each class will be researching animals at risk and then presenting these to each other at the end of the day.
Our School Councillors will be leading a very special assembly next week so the children will then know a bit more about the day and dress code too!
Federation Arts Week
In the final week of this half-term (19th-22nd May) classes across the Federation will all be engaging in lots of art activities all with the theme of 'our wonderful world'. Promoting awareness of the environment and exploring new artists and themes. We look forward to the week and hope to also invite parents/carers in towards the end of the week to view their finished artworks and share in their success!
Tesco Grant Reminder!
Please don't forget that our Pond Fundraising Project has been selected to participate in the 'Tesco's Stronger' Starts grants programme. This is where shoppers select which charity they would like to support by posting their blue tokens in their choice of slot, before they leave the store.
Our Pond project is now featured at the Tesco Extra store at Pinchington Lane until the end of July 2026. It would be wonderful if our families and community could support this project by shopping at this store and encouraging others to do so please. If successful we could raise up to £1500 towards our new pond.

Maths Parent Workshop
Mr Scott will lead this parent workshop on how to support your child with number and calculation across the whole of Primary School.
Chartwells Summer menu tasters
Over the next few weeks the school kitchen will be offering tasters of some of the new items on the school Summer menu before it starts after half-term. There will be small samples for all children to have the opportunity to taste twice a week for the next 3 weeks. New menus will be sent home to parents as soon as we receive them in school.

Please note that we have adjusted Year 6 leavers events to take account of secondary summer schools, however the last day of term for all pupils remains Wednesday 22nd July. All Year 6 pupil not involved in secondary summer school must still attend WHJS that day.

Safeguarding Matters
Why social media isn’t appropriate for primary-aged children
Many children become curious about social media while they are still in primary school. They may hear friends talking about it, see older siblings using it or ask for accounts themselves. While this curiosity is completely natural, most social media platforms are designed for teenagers and adults, not younger children. Popular social media platforms, such as TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat and YouTube, set a minimum age of 13 for creating an account.
These limits are largely linked to online data and advertising regulations rather than a guarantee that the platforms are suitable for young children and teenagers.
In reality, many of the conversations, videos and images shared on these platforms are created by and for older teenagers and adults. This means children may easily come across content, language or ideas that are confusing, upsetting or simply not appropriate for their age.
Even for children who are 13 or older, these platforms often require careful guidance and supervision from adults. For younger children in primary school, social media can therefore expose them to online spaces that they are not yet ready to manage safely or confidently.
Attendance Matters

There is a clear link between absence and attainment. As levels of absence increase, the proportion of pupils reaching their expected levels of attainment decreases.
Attending school on a regular basis is the key to your child doing well at school and will set them up with good habits for later life and the working world.
It will also give your child the opportunity to:
Make lots of friends and feel included and that they belong
Learn new things and develop new skills, be successful
Increase their confidence and self-esteem
Enjoy their education
Friends Of The Schools of Woolton Hill
Last week’s colour run was a great success. It was our first time doing this event and we are sure that it will not be the last. It was a beautiful sunny evening and everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves. A big thank you for your support in raising £1k for our pond project.
This week the Tesco blue token collection went live, so please pop a blue token in our box each time you shop at Tesco Extra on Pinchington Lane.
Also this week we had an artist come in to do a drawing session, where the youngsters enjoyed learning to draw some different animals. Due to its popularity we have another session booked for Thursday 14th May 3:30pm to 4:30pm. £7.50 per person open to years 2 to 6. Limited spaces available.

Pre-loved uniform
We have a stock of second hand uniform that you can buy for a small donation. A big thank you goes to Rachel Ryan who has managed the stock for a number of years. This has now been handed over to Lottie Sheppard to look after.
