Deputy Headteacher's Update

We are delighted to announce the next stage of our Outdoor Learning Project. With the fantastic support of our PTA and their fund raising over the past year they are able to commit as staggering initial £9,500 towards the project! We want to say a huge thank you to the members of the PTA over the past year who have worked so hard to fund raise and organise events for our children.

The next stage is some building work to realise the vision (this is expected to be over the summer months in readiness for use from September 2024), staff training is booked for June 2024 which we are really looking forward to and we are busy writing our own bespoke Outdoor Learning curriculum with the support of the Hampshire Outdoors Team.

For your children, this will mean that from September 2024 each class in the Federation will have dedicated outdoor learning lessons taught by their teachers using our amazing grounds and new facilities. We are planning this into an already busy curriculum and currently intend to start the academic year with the commitment that each class will have, at least, 2 afternoons of Outdoor Learning per half term.

Over their time in primary school this is a huge commitment to learning outdoors and we intend that this project supports children to develop new skills, a love and respect for the environment as well as the well-researched benefits for social skills and mental health.

We encourage you to please have a read of the Outdoor Project plans here:

Upcoming Events

We have a number of parent meetings and workshops taking place in the coming weeks and I would encourage parents to attend as many as possible. Sign up using the links below:

This workshop, lead by our SENCo Miss Knapp, will help parents better understanding how children with SEND are supported at The Schools of Woolton Hill as well as give some practical tips and signposting for parents wanting to support their child at home with homework, being more independent and mastering new skills.

World Book Day

To celebrate World Book Day we are inviting parents to come into school and read to/with their children on Friday 8th March at 9am-9.30am. Children can come to school on this day dressed up as their favourite book character, author or illustrator. Please ensure your child is wearing sensible footwear.

Parents Evenings

As you are aware our Parents Evenings this term are: Wednesday 20th March from 3.30pm-6pm and Tuesday 26th March from 3.30pm-6pm.

You will be able to book your appointment on line through your Arbor account from 8th March at 9am. Appointments close 15th March at 9am.

Reminders

Please can we again remind everybody not to park in the Woolton Hill Pre School Car Park, this parking is for their staff and parents of children who attend the Pre-School only.

It would be very helpful once you have dropped your child off in the morning if you would free up your parking space as soon as possible in order that other parents can park to drop off their children. For safety reasons please can we remind everybody that our staff car park should not be used for parking to drop children off or pick them up.

Children should not cycle or scoot through the school grounds and no children should be on the outdoor equipment at the start/end of the day, this is due to insurance purposes. Thank you for your co-operation.

Please can we ask that pupils do not bring their own pencil cases to school. These are not required as all the stationery that children need is provided. Pencil cases can cause a big distraction to learning. Thank you for your support.

Bags2School

Reminder - there is a Bags2School collection on Friday 1st March.  Please bring any bags you have from Wednesday 28th February and put them in the outdoor classroom - thank you.

P.A.C.E. (Parent, Carer and Professionals Events)
