Creating a Vision and Values for the Federation

It's hard to believe that it's been a year since I joined as Headteacher of the Schools of Woolton Hill, and two years since the Governors took the decision to federate both schools. We have achieved a lot in that time and already taken some big steps towards delivering on the original vision for federation.

The next big step in our journey is to create a joint vision and unified set of values, across the federation. This is a really important step and will ensure that we all have a shared understanding of the school that we are building. A clear vision and values are an essential ingredient to ensure the children can build on the skills they learn at the Infant School as they progress through the Juniors and on to Secondary School.

A United Federation with a Shared Destination

We are already seeing many benefits of the two schools working closely together including a single Leadership team, a smoother transition from Year 2 to Year 3 and even the Peer Mentors and School Councils working across both schools.

Church Affiliation

One of the obvious differences between the schools today is that the Infants is a Church school whilst the Juniors is not. In practice there is very little difference, and in fact, the values are very similar already. To make the communication and teaching of this shared Vision and Values easier across both schools, I have proposed to the Governors that the Juniors become a Church affiliated school.

Church affiliation is not the same as becoming a Church school but will provide children at the Junior school with many of the benefits, including access to resources and activities provided by the Church.

This step will provide important continuity for children as they progress from Infants to Juniors.
